Yang gemarkan Hainanese Chicken Chop boleh lah try Uncle Johnny Steak Corner di Restoran Kampung Lobak Thai (belakang Stesen minyak Petronas Jalan Lobak)

Restoran ini dikendalikan oleh seorang warganegara Thai bersama pekerja-pekerja Melayu dengan konsep 'Pork & Lard Free' bagi menarik kunjungan orang yang beragama Islam.

Selain daripada masakan Thai ia juga menawarkan gerai Satay, Nasi Lemak dan paling best sekali Hainanese Chicken Chop Uncle Johnny.

Sebelum ini Johnny pernah bekerja di restoran Jepun Haruta d’Tempat Sendayan dan apabila restoran terpaksa ditutup pihak pengurusan enggan melepaskannya dan menawarkan pakej gaji yang cukup lumayan.

Namun begitu mereka akhirnya terpaksa akur apabila Johnny tetap berhasrat untuk membuka gerainya sendiri.
  
Dan beginilah bermulanya Uncle Johnny Steak Corner bertapak di Restoran Kampung Lobak Thai dan jom kita saksikan bagaimana Johnny bersama rakan wanitanya Ching bertungkus lumus mengendalikan gerai tersebut.



Why is it so hard to find a good Hainanese Chicken Chop for dinner nowadays and let alone a place that is pork and lard free so that I could bring my Muslim friends along.

My question was answered when I noticed the signboards being plastered all over town and that has led me to this newly opened steak corner situated in Jalan Lobak behind the Petronas petrol station.

‘Sometimes people would come as early as 5pm so we need to be ready for them as first impression counts as we are still very new in town’

The steak corner may be new but there’s nothing new about Johnny as he has been a chef since the early 80’s

‘Do you still remember the Suntory Restaurant located behind the Emporium in town? Well that’s where I learned to cook my first Hainanese Chicken Chop and Thank God the skill rubbed off on me until today’ said Johnny.
Those that have been to Haruta Japanese restaurant in d’Tempat country club would instantly recognize Johnny who was always behind the sushi bar churning out those freshly made sushi.

‘And when Haruta closed down the management didn’t want to let me go they asked me to work in a different department and made me an offer that I can’t refuse’ quipped Johnny.

But he had to turn it down knowing that it is time for him to pursue his interest in running a business of his own.

Helped by his lady partner Ching they both manned the stall with astute accuracy and in lightning speed.

Johnny does all the cooking while Ching manages the orders and the cashier with the help of 2 Bangladeshi guys sending the food to the tables p.s. Looks like I'm not the only one that couldn't resist snapping photos.

Let's take a look at the steps in preparing the Hainanese Chicken Chop.

First is to whip the French fries out from the fryer.

And straight onto the plates with the salad dressing together with the battered fried chicken chop.   

And for the final touches the pouring of the creamy sauce.

The special creamy sauce with sliced onions, mushrooms, mixed carrots, peas and corns, the essential ingredients that give meaning to the Hainanese Chicken Chop.

 Satay dan Nasi Lomak Halimah

Pak Hamid yang berasal dari Ampangan telah menceburi bisnes menjual satay dan nasi lemak hampir 30 tahun dan kini mengembangkan sayapnya ke Restoran Kampung Lobak Thai.  

‘Tanya je orang Ampangan Satay Halimah tentu ramai yang kenal’ ujar Pak Hamid.

Bau daging yang diperap dibakar menghasilkan aroma yang cukup memikat selera.  

Dibantu oleh anak perempuannya Pak Hamid menyediakan pilihan satay asas iaitu ayam, daging dan kambing yang dihidangkan bersama-sama dengan kuah kacang dan nasi impit.  
Satay ayam yang dibakar tidak terlalu garing membolehkan anda menikmati dagingnya yang lembut dan penuh berperisa. Moh cobalah waghih.   



Nasi lomak teluq goreng.

Selain daripada Satay jangan lupo order Nasi lomak teluq bersamo ghondang ayam resipi spesel gerai Halimah dengan kuahnya yang pekat dan sambal yang cukup 'Red Hot'                                   
Tunggu apo laie waghih cobalah. 

Gabungan Satay dan Nasi lomak ringkas tetapi kental dan para pelanggannya amat berpueh hati dengan layanan yang diberikan serta suasana gerai yang bersih dan selesa.  

Waktu biz setiap hari dari pukul 6pm sehingga 11pm dan cuti pada setiap hari Rabu.

And back to more action

Johnny is preparing his signature salad a mixture of sliced cucumber with shredded crab stick and topped with fish roe together with salad sauce. 

The salad is a must try and it is only available at Johnny's.
A concoction he learned when he was a sushi chef.


No matter how busy but there's always time for a light moment with his customers.
'Hey Johnny what's taking you so long with our orders?'

'Please Shaddup and Talk to da Hand!'



With so many food showcased on the table there shall be no trouble in ordering.

What's so special with the sauce?


Here's the difference with Johnny's special sauce.
"The black pepper sauce is not black it's creamy and it is my own secret recipe" beamed Johnny.

Sos lada hitam biasanya berwarna hitam tetapi di sini ia berwarna krim hasil ciptaan 'secret' resipe Uncle Johnny. 


The lamb steak with black pepper sauce and again the black pepper sauce is not black but creamy and you must try the sauce.


The Cheezy Chicken Chop

The Hainanese Chicken Chop Rice.

Their homemade creamy Mushroom soup.

You can opt for take-away but you need to pay extra RM1.00 for the plastic container so if possible please bring your own Tiffin carriers. 

Yang nak tapau tu dikenakan caj singgit untuk kotak plastik jadi elok juga bawa bekal stainless steel sendiri. 

Tiada satu pun meja yang kosong. Harap bersabar ye.

Not one table is empty so please be patience.
