An eye on Tai.

Organically grown in his father's optical shop since 1985, Christopher Tai has a base to call his own today - the Eyecon Optometry Network located in Uptown Avenue, Seremban 2. Chris, as fondly known to his regulars, is the professional they would be more than pleased to vouch for his personalized services rendered to them over the years.

His humble beginnings started the day he graduated from the Philippines as an optometrist and his work has taken him to places like Singapore, Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur before finally settling down in Seremban 2.

"It was fated that I open my own practice when I was helping my former employer Dr Loo to set up her clinic in Kepong. I happened to stumble upon the Eyecon Optometry franchise network and I immediately knew it would be a good investment" said Chris.

Chris's optical shop Eyecon Optometry Network is located in No. 342, Ground Floor, Jalan S2 B8, Seremban 2 Uptown Avenue. Tel No: 06-601 3535.

Tai has an eye on accomplishment.

As I was eyeing through the photo frames hanging on the wall of his office, I noticed that Chris is not your ordinary optometrist.

One of the photos portrayed him crossing the finishing line of a marathon, pointing both hands in the air, exulting a sense of accomplishment was vividly etched in my mind.

"Taking part in the Marathon goes beyond winning medals" he said. It is the spirit of participation and sportsmanship, and the sense of camaraderie with the people running alongside him that evokes in him a sense of belonging "You immerse yourself in the Marathon, not just run it" he cited emotionally.

His table is littered with countless lanyards of medals and he's holding the one that matters the most.

Tai has an eye on you.

Up close and personal with Chris, making sure the eye examination goes well and this what he does best.
Stressing on the importance of eye care, it is all about the patient's vision, lifestyle and satisfaction and that's the reason most of his customers keep coming back to him. He converts his new customers to old and the old customers back to new when they start introducing their young family members and friends to his shop.

"I let him pick my glasses for me, he knows which one suits my face" said Mr Tan, an auditor by profession "the brand need not be important but most importantly I need to look good"

Tai has an eye on BNI Amazing Chapter.

Chris has been with the Seremban BNI Amazing Chapter for 9 years and without fail every Wednesday morning, he'll crawl out of bed at 6am to attend the BNI meeting that starts at 7am until 9am.

And there he will meet up with a vast network of business owners ranging from a doctor, lawyer, entrepreneurs, Chinese medicinal practitioner, hotelier and to even a professional clown and many more.

"BNI is a referral organization, its mechanic is to refer businesses to all our members, week in and week out and it is really easy if you know they way" said one of its member as he passes the contribution glass bowl around for members to collect and hand in business referrals.

And by the end of the meeting the bowl is full of referral slips which amounted to a hefty business deals transacted by all the members.

Chris also lamented the difficulty during the early stages "Managing the people in our BNI chapter was difficult at the beginning, it is like managing a litter of cats that tends to stray but somehow we managed to get everyone to cohesively work together towards achieving a common goal, to grow our businesses together by referrals"

And today the chapter has proven to be a critical success factor for businesses to grow and managed to attract many new business owners to join its bandwagon.

What BNI means to them? Simply pick one of them then take a knife, cut his hand and he'll bleed BNI.

Tai has an eye on CSR.

Many school children and Orang asli kids are not fully aware that they have vision problems and this has set Chris and his peers on a mission to provide free eye screening for them as part of their CSR project sponsored by the Malaysian Association of Practicing Opticians (MAPO) and the HOYA brand which sponsored new lenses and spectacles to the needy.

*Note: Chris is also on the committee of MAPO.

And the kids just love him!

Tai has an eye on the future

"The real product is actually are ourselves, I always view myself as the product" Quote: Christopher Tai.

Pondering the future where the optical business will be faced with intense competition, he stressed that the traditional way of doing optical business desperately needs to change in order to meet up with the discerning customers and pairing it with product sophistication as this would be imperative to survival in today's competitive optical industry.

Generally the optical industry also needs quality and dedicated opticians and there are't many in the market. Fresh graduates often look for higher pay but they lack the exposure towards handling of customers and their inexperience and impatience has escalated the problem to a higher level.

"Customers will leave you to search for experienced opticians that can personalize to their needs and lifestyle" he stressed.

So to overcome the shortage Chris has volunteered to train a few apprentices and if you have what it takes to become a dedicated and successful optician then your mentor is waiting for you in Seremban 2 Eyecon Optometry Network.

Finally, Tai has an eye on humour.

His secretary handing him his phone and said "Chris you have 2 incoming calls, the Prime Minister is on line 1 and your wife is on line 2"

"The PM can wait" as he swiped on line 2 and said "Hi hon, what's for dinner?"
