Kum Kee Wanton Mee錦記雲吞面@S2 Hing Hing Hing兴兴兴茶餐室

Many Rahang New Village folks would still remember the ‘Lou Sui’ Wantan Mee stall(老水云吞面) which was owned by an elderly couple in a coffee shop many years ago.

Since their retirement most would have thought that their famous oven roasted Char Siew together with the special wanton and the chicken curry noodles would have been lost for good.

Not anymore because their legacy rubbed off on one of their daughter named Amy and together with her husband Ken they have opened a new stall in S2 Hing Hing Hing restaurant.

Both Ken and Amy reviving the age old business handed down by Amy’s parents.

Amy helped out at the her parent's stall at a very young age, she basically did all the work and learnt how to make and prepare all the ingredients but the cooking was done by her parents.

‘After my parents retired I thought of continuing the business but that was also the time when I met Ken whom I knew I was going to marry’ said Amy.

They were blessed with 2 wonderful kids who took up most of their time but not until recently ‘Now our kids are older so we have decided it is time to make a comeback’

Introducing the long lost ‘Lou Sui’ Wanton Mee by Kum Kee.

This is their trademark Char siew which is different from what you usually get at other stalls. It is oven roasted therefore making it more tender & juicy and in addition it also contained less fat.

After slicing the char siew it would be served with a dash of their special homemade BBQ sauce.
The taste of the springy Wanton noodles combined with the sweet sauce of the Char Siew is good enough to excite one’s taste buds to the fullest.

In raw form their famous wanton made from the secret recipe handed down by Amy’s parents.

If you love fried food then the fried Wanton would suit you fine.

However I would still prefer the Wanton to be cooked in the soup.

The taste is different from the Wanton that I used to get and I was unsure of the filling and I thought I tasted some rice wine in it but Amy was tight lipped because it is the secret recipe she learnt from her parents.

Another dish that you need to try is the homemade chicken curry “The chicken curry was the first dish my mother taught me to prepare and she was pleased when I let her try my cooking” said Amy.

Although the name has been changed to Kum Kee錦記but the taste of the old stall is still very much alive and kicking.

Kum Kee Wanton Mee is open daily from 8.00am till 2.30pm. Their rest day will follow the S2 HHH Restaurant.
