The Suntory Days of Uncle Johnny

Uncle Johnny's Steak Corner was previously located in Jalan Lobak, the Kampung Lobak Thai Restaurant and just before Christmas 2019 the place was raided by the immigration department for harboring illegal foreign workers.

And without the foreign workers the place had to close and Johnny lost his source of income overnight. He went around aimlessly looking for a new place to start all over but was met with plenty of obstacles.

Weeks gradually passed and soon turned into months he was still jobless until one day a friend introduced him to this new place in the busy crossroad between Jalan Templer and Temiang, the corner shop next to the busy traffic lights junction of Jalan Temiang.

The owner of Sin Sin restaurant was very kind to offer Johnny to join his shop alongside with the famous Nasi Minang, Wanton mee and chicken rice stall.

He even sponsored Johnny a brand new triple stove unit to help him kick start his business and when things were starting to look good for Johnny, he went out the frying pan into the fire when the government announced the start of the MCO and Johnny was once again jobless until the month of June.

This would be the 2nd time I'm writing about the marvelous Hainanese Chicken Chop by Uncle Johnny a recipe that he perfected from the days working at Suntory Restaurant in Seremban during the 90's (now the Guardian pharmacy in Jalan Dato' Sheikh Ahmad)

Uncle Johnny Steak Corner

Bringing back the good old taste of the yesteryear.

There’s simply nothing much to comment about Johnny’s chicken chop and steaks because during his peak there would be about a dozen plates laid out in front of him to be handled all at one go.
Note* you can checkout the previous blog about him at the end of this blog.

The fries freshly fried upon order.

Adding the finishing touch.

As I have mentioned before Johnny’s specialty has always been the sauce that has been transcended to him from Suntory when most would use starch to make the sauce but not in Johnny’s case as it is made from his own secret recipe which has a very creamy texture to it.

Uncle Johnny’s signature Hainanese Chicken Chop.

A bite to remember, the long lost taste of Suntory Restaurant.

Cooked to perfection, the meat is very juicy and tender.

Many opted for takeaway and this is also one of his best seller The Hainanese Chicken Chop rice.

Besides from selling western food, Johnny complements his earning with stir fried noodles, Beehoon, rice at only RM6.00 a plate and the portion is very generous.

If you still remember Suntory’s famous aromatic fried rice then you must give this a go and the taste would take you down memory lane of Seremban in the 90’s

The Singapore fried Beehoon for only RM6.00

Preparing the Cantonese fried Mee Hoon.

The Cantonese fried Mee Hoon also for RM6.00 and just look at the generous portion.

Saving the best for last....

Uncle Johnny Fried Wanton Mee.
As some of you may not have tried before.

Transforming the simple wanton mee into something different.

The fresh Wanton Mee is first deep fried before rinsed with water.

Getting rid the oil off the noodles.

Stir frying the wanton mee.

Voila! A plate of fried Wanton Mee.

Topped with lard, shrimp, pork and fish cake for only RM6.00 and those haven't tried here's your chance.
